Once chewed as an early breath freshener and stomach-soother, dill seed is reminiscent in shape and flavor of fennel seed—but its name is actually a misnomer, since it’s the fruit of the flowering dill plant. Their caraway-like flavor is far more concentrated than the green fronds, and is great when used (sparingly) in salad dressings, stocks, and vinegar brines.
